I have blogged in the past about the power of emo, especially in a movie trailer.
I ran across this video of a movie that Spike Jonze is adapting from the book "Everyone Poops." It humanizes the struggles of a child learning the cruel ways of the world and her trying to find her place in it. Powerful stuff.
Okay, I guess I checked and the studio pulled out of the movie and they have decided to not make this one. I guess we will have to wait for this powerful story to hit the big screen.

Emo Sells
I've come to the conclusion that every trailer for a new movie should contain a song from The Arcade Fire.
Here is a brand new trailer for Where the Wild Things Are.
I am actually excited about this movie. I do remember the book when growing up, it did have pictures. I think it is cool that they are taking a classic kids' movie and letting Spike Jonze get his crazy hands on it (see Adaptation or Being John Malkovich). I also think it is cool that hipster-writer Dave Eggers wrote the screenplay. What a great idea to take a 48 page children's book and let a hipster dude who wrote a 560 page book about an African refugee running for his life based on a true story.
I also thought that this trailer for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was bad-a@@, especially with the eerie Arcade Fire music.

Labels
I was flipping channels tonight trying to find something to watch that wouldn't make me angrier. (a losing battle) I stopped for about 3 minutes on some stupid reality game show on Fox waiting for House to come on (which it never did). They were asking the guy what he did for a living. He said he was a bartend, then he paused and then said "and I'm a musician." Just because you played s**tty emo songs about how sensitive you are in an effort to get your girlfriend back, doesn't make you a musician.
It's seems like "musician" is one of the only labels one can give themself. Just because I once removed my own tonsels, I'm not allowed to call myself a doctor. Just because my ex-wife you to sleep with anyone, I wouldn't call myself a pimp. If you want to call yourself a musician you actually have to make music that other people would want to listen to, and will actually pay you to listen to. So therefore most of "popular music" is excluded, especially every American Idol winner ever.
