A few of you who are lucky enough to hang out with the Blog-father in person were privileged to a sneak peak of this story over the weekend.
A kid in North Carolina has decided to drop out of high school to pursue a future in Guitar Hero for a living. The saddest part of this is that his parents are allowing him to do this. The article says that he wasn't that good in school anyways, and didn't get along with many students. Maybe because his parents allowed him to play so much Guitar Hero instead of going out and getting chicks pregnant. Also sad is that the article says someone good might make $25,000 on average as a professional video gamer. $25,000? You can make that flipping burgers at McDonald's, nowadays with the economy, that ain't s**t. How in god's name are his parents okay with this? Also what happens in three years when no one is playing Guitar Hero anymore, and this kid (then an adult) has no high school diploma and no video game tournaments to go out and win? Uh-oh.
I remember in college (one of the few things I do remember) there were 3 of us who could literally beat anyone in Goldeneye. No matter how good some people said they were, any three of us or any combination of two on a team would wipe the floor with that person, no matter the options or handicap we gave them. Maybe I missed the train and should have dropped out of college and pursued Goldeneye professionally. Imagine where I would be today?
Maybe I should quit my day job (whatever that is) and blog professionally for a living?
