Sell Out

While watching some American Football today I saw a commercial to buy Family Guy "Blue Harvest" on DVD. This was the season premier episode this year, and was an hour long spoof of Star Wars, and not a good one. Now they are selling this episode for $12.99 or $25 for the special edition with a poster and some other crap. I remember that Family Guy did this before with "Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story." They sold this as the "Family Guy Movie," and then used this episode as the season finale two years ago. There are also Subway commercials featuring Peter Griffin in it, and the trailer for the movie Jumper shows the kid at home watching Family Guy.

This got me to thinking that Family Guy will sell out to anyone at any time. I went to Amazon and searched for Family Guy DVDs and got 386 results. That seems a bit much for a show that has barely 100 episodes. They have Season 4 Part 1, Season 4 Part 2, The Best of Peter, The Best of Stewie, etc. I know you make shows for money, but selling out this extreme is a bit much.

Who were the ad wizards who came up with this one...

So I'm just lying around watching some good old fashioned American Football. Now that my wife can no longer stop me from watching it, it is one of the few happiness's I have left. I saw a new commercial for Subway that was just ridiculous and made no sense. Subway has never had very good commercials, in fact their best commercial was probably the fake commercial in Happy Gilmore.

This new commercial has Golden Boy Brady Quinn on top of this float in a football stadium parking lot throwing subs at people tailgating. Everyone is really excited and hollering at Brady Quinn and eating the subs. Then a voice over comes on saying that Brady Quinn will be at football games all over the country every Sunday throwing you a Subway Sub. Brady Quinn then look at the camera and says, "Every Sunday? I'm kind of busy." Then jumps off the float, puts his helmet on and runs into the stadium.

This commercial is stupid on a few fronts. First, why did they select Brady Quinn? Was Aaron Rodger and Alex Smith busy? Second, who would eat a cold sub over a hot burger or brat off the grill? Thirdly, why does Brady Quinn say he is busy every Sunday? He's the third quarterback on Cleveland. The odds of him ever taking a snap for the Browns is about 2%.

Subway needs to stop allowing Jared write their commercial for them, they're terrible.
