Keep your fingers crossed

I'm sitting here watching the Brewer's game ( a few more times while they are still in first place) and there was just a commercial for "Walk-off Wednesdays." If you go to a game on Wednesday and buy a jersey of a player before the 7th inning and then that player hits a walk-off home run, you win an autographed bat. Now what are the odds of that happening?

I tried looking for some numbers on this, but was not able to find how many there are a season or anything. I did however find the list of the all time leaders:
  • Jimmie Foxx……….12
  • Mickey Mantle……. 12
  • Stan Musial……….. 12
  • Frank Robinson……12
  • Babe Ruth………….12
  • Tony Perez…………11
  • Dick Allen…………..10
  • Harold Baines …….10
  • Reggie Jackson……10
  • Mike Schmidt ……..10
These are some of the greatest hitters of all time, so is it very likely that if I buy a Ryan Braun jersey on a Wednesday that he will hit a walk off that game. Even if he does, the prize is only a bat that was probably signed by an intern to say Ryan Braun.

The Brewers also have a contest every home game that if the lead off hitter hits a home run in the 6th inning that lands in the "Mercedes Benz Picnic Area" in right field. Keep in mind that this area is about 300 square feet. IF that does happen, one lucky fan wins a 1-year lease of a Mercedes Benz, they don't even win a car, they just get to drive one around for a year, and then have the option to buy it then. Lame!

Lets have some real contests, ones that are likely to happen, and one in which you win something you would want. How about if Yost puts his best players in the game, doesn't keep the pitcher in there for too long, and doesn't send Gwynn to AAA every one in attendance gets a free beer. (Oh wait, that would never happen either.)
