Bluff calling 101

Now we have this article that Favre is just going to show up to minicamp and call the Packers' "bluff." We'll see if this strategy works, it seems oddly familiar to the strategy taken by George Costanza on Seinfeld when he quits his job and then regrets it and decides to just show up for work on Monday.

At this point I am wondering if the Packers are the real bad guy. Favre just wants to play football (his first choice would be the Packers he has said), and the Packers have said they are not interested, but won't let him play for someone else. It's like you quit your job, then want to come back, but they also won't let you go work anywhere else either. I was always taught you can't have your cake and eat it too.

The correct legal term for such an action would be a covenant not to compete which courts will generally hold to be invalid unless they are reasonable as to duration and geographic scope and are not otherwise unduly burdensome. To my knowledge, Mr. Favre's contract contains no such provision. Thus, in my expert (and by expert I mean purely amateur) opinion, the Packers (Ted Thompson in particular) should A) stop being whining pussies and take Favre back and open the starting QB position to competition (which would still be fair to Rodgers), or B) grant him his unconditional release and take the risk that he will play for another team in the division (Vikings) and said team may or may not be more successful than the Packers this season. All this "oh we've moved on emotionally" talk is pure losertalk garbage. With all "sympathy" to Mr. "Get on board or shut your mouth" Rodgers, you go with the player who gives you the best chance to win. End of story. So if Mr. Rodgers, 27, who has been training the entire off-season, cannot beat out Mr. Favre, 39, who has been playing catch with high-schoolers for the last couple weeks, then he would be advised to heed his own advice. To wit, shut his mouth, get on board, & grab a clipboard. It ain't show-friends ladies - its show-biznass...

Well put sir. I agree 100%. Then the open market (training camp) determine the starter, the other is a backup and can be traded or released.
