Mommy, where's daddy?
It looks the greatest divorce in Wisconsin history is going to take place shortly. Brett Favre has reportedly asked the Packers to release him so he can play again next year on some team because the Packers are showing no interest in his services.
I think Favre is about 6 years past his prime, and his success last year was a fluke. The Packers are probably better without him, not that Rogers is the answer. They are better with a quarterback who will allow them to run more and throw short passes, and not interceptions. I know he is already on a team, but the Packers need someone like David Garrard. He doesn't wow you but he is efficient and doesn't throw picks.
I however do think that both parties will regret this divorce. It is a public relations nightmare for the Packers. Favre's image will be forever tarnished in the history books. He can't go to any indoor team because he sucks on turf. He will probably end up playing for a bad team because all the good teams already have a QB. He will not win many games, will have a lot of interceptions and will probably get hurt.
What I think he should do if he really misses the game is come back as a backup for the Packers and a consultant. He can help Rogers and their rookie QB, and then come in if they all suck or a miracle comeback is needed in a game.

You have officially lost it. I would take Favre at 55 over Rodgers in his prime. Rodgers has only proven that he can play decently in a blowout game for one half and then get hurt. Favre as he proved last season has plenty in the tank and when he has decent receivers (something he lacked for the previous 5 seasons)he is still one of the top 10 QBs in the league. I predict he will catch on with a contender and be the missing piece to lead them back to the playoffs while Rodgers will be ineffective before becoming injured. Then the Packers will be sitting there with a losing record and Brian Brohm or worse as the starter. At that point fairweather fans & bandwagon bloggers alike will be clamoring for Favre. To side against Favre on this one is to side with Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy - two stubborn idiots on a stick. They deserve each other and when its all said in done they will be a footnote in Packers history for foolishly passing up on one of the greatest talents ever. Favre has done too much for the Packers for them to turn their backs on him now. Every year he has restructured his contract to defer money to future years so they could have more salary cap flexibility. He has given everything he has in every game so he deserves a lot of leeway to take as much time as he wants before deciding whether to return. It will be a sad state of affairs when the Favre-led Vikings beat the Packers on Monday Night Football in Green Bay on opening night because Ted Thompson ran a legend out of town to make room for his own handpicked scrub QB.
Also short of testing positive for PEDs, Favre can do nothing at this point to tarnish his legacy. When Jordan came back to play for the Wizards for 2 seasons it was strange to be sure but he is still remembered as the greatest to ever play the game despite two losing seasons.
Bottom line I am embarrassed to be a Packers fan today & if it ever comes down to rooting for Favre v. Packers I will take Favre every single time.
You make a valid point law dog. But the leeway has been given every year for the past 6. I may retire...I may come back...I may retire...I want to ride my tractor and hunt. Yes, he is one of the best ever to play the game, and no, I do not like being on the same side as Thompy and that fake Irish prick McCarthy. You cant blame them though, as they have already moved on and taken the noodle-armed retiree at his word at the end of last season. They drafted 2 QB's, however nameless they are, and have been grooming the glass bodied Rogers for 3 years now. Besides, who cares about the NFL. It is Baseball season, and your Milwaukee Brewers are poised to run it out. Also, that was the most long winded post you have ever made. Nice job little guy. Good luck on the LSAT.
